Welcome to the Springwell Forge website, my name is David Gowlett.
The forge is located in the village of Ugley on the Essex, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire borders.
As a full-time Blacksmith working since 1978 I have produced a wide range of hand-forged metal work using traditional blacksmith’s techniques.

My work involves commissions and designing metal work for the private client, as well as to companies of all sizes, and to large organisations. I specialise in bespoke ironwork forging, and domestic light steel fabrication. I produce a wide range of high quality products, from small items including letter openers, wall lamps and wine racks, small gates and railings, garden ornaments and furniture, to large entrance gates, and pergolas. I can also supply bespoke fireside tools and ‘furniture’ including fire baskets, fire screens, and fire hoods.

I am accomplished in the conservation, restoration, and reproduction of period architecture, having completed work for English Heritage, church authorities, Saffron Walden Town Council, and Uttlesford District Council.
